Dainik Jagran Umeed Donates BiPAP Ventilators to Deoria District Administration (4 June 2021)

When the second wave of COVID-19 began overwhelming rural districts across Uttar Pradesh, Deoria found itself battling a crisis that was intensifying by the hour. Hospitals faced severe strain as patient numbers rose, and frontline medical teams struggled with a critical shortage of respiratory-support equipment. In a district where many families rely on primary health centres for care, the lack of advanced ventilation support put countless lives at risk.

It was during this fragile moment that the Umeed Project Foundation, in collaboration with the Indian Navy, delivered five advanced Oxy BiPAP ventilators to the Deoria district administration. Covered by Dainik Jagran, the handover marked a turning point for local health facilities that had been functioning with minimal resources.

These BiPAP ventilators were chosen specifically for their suitability in managing moderate to severe respiratory distress, a condition common during COVID surges. Unlike simple oxygen cylinders, BiPAP machines offer regulated pressure support, giving patients a better chance of stabilising without needing ICU-level intervention. For many rural hospitals, acquiring such machines during global shortages was almost impossible, making this donation both timely and lifesaving.

District officials stated that the ventilators would be immediately deployed in COVID wards and emergency units. Medical staff, who had been rotating limited machines across multiple patients, finally had tools they could rely on. The Indian Navy’s involvement ensured efficient delivery and technical guidance, allowing the district to integrate the equipment quickly into its care system.

For Umeed, strengthening rural healthcare has always been a core priority. The organisation recognised early in the pandemic that urban areas would dominate supply chains, leaving districts like Deoria behind. This intervention became part of Umeed’s larger OxygenSOS programme, which supported hospitals with concentrators, BiPAPs, PPE kits, and critical monitoring devices across India.

The Dainik Jagran feature highlighted the quiet reassurance this donation brought to families and frontline workers.

In a district that felt forgotten, these ventilators arrived like a breath of relief.
